Day 3 of 44 days of Witchery Challenge

Day 3.. Witchy tools: Athame

The Athame, is the Black Handled Knife used to cut the many things for the circle such as the pentagrams in the quarters and the circle. It should be mentioned that the Athame, does not really need to be a black handled knife. It’s a common opinion that the Athame, should suit the person who uses it. One of its uses is to invoke things that are wanted, and banish things that are unwanted or un-needed in the circle. The Athame, is considered to be an extension of oneself”. This includes will, spirit, thought, emotion and manifestation as well. The Athame, is never used for cutting things like meat, thread, plants or anything else considered a solid object on this plane. It’s believed that use of this blade for self defense will make it null and void for any magickal use again.

This is the one that I would like to get someday!

Day 2 of 44 days of Witchery Challenge

Day 2-A myth or tale from Folklore !

I have always like the story of Persephone and her dual life! I can only imagine how hard it would be to taken from my family.
One of my favorite interpretations of the different Goddess myths is from author P.C Cast . The Goddess Summoning Series!

Greek Goddess Persephone

Innocent Maiden and Queen of the Underworld
The Greek goddess Persephone represents both the youthful, maiden aspect (innocent and joyous) as well as the more womanly self who, innocence lost and less attached to her parents, can begin to make healthy decisions for herself.

Carefree and innocent, a young girl-child just approaching adolescence, Persephone was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. While gathering flowers, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the Underworld to become his queen.

Although Persephone’s beloved mother Demeter eventually secured her release, Persephone managed to insure that she could “have it all”!

Persephone spent part of the year above ground with her mother but returned to her husband each winter (for she had grown rather fond of him and enjoyed her role as Queen of the Underworld). Spring represents the return of the eternally youthful Persephone to our world each year.

The Greek goddess Persephone was also known in her youth as the goddess Kore (or Cora), whose counterpart in mythology is the Roman goddess Prosperina.

In Greek mythology the goddess Persephone is thought to be the goddess of the soul, the possessor of the psyche’s dark, unseen wisdom. But she is brings us all the bright green growth of spring . . . and all the hope that it brings.

Day 1 of 44 days of Witchery challenge !

What’s your witchy background?

My witchy background is all my own! No one in my family is a witch. Growing up my family was not really religious at all. We did not spend our Sundays at church like most families did in our area, we just stayed home. I always felt at home outside in nature or with animals.

So I feel like I am a eclectic kitchen witch. I pull from many forms of Wicca and witchcraft. I enjoy working with herbs in my kitchen, growing a garden and just be outdoors under the sunlight or moonlight.

I also pull on my Celtic roots to bond with Celtic goddesses and gods.

The sad part is where I live I have to hide my witchy self because the community I live is a very religious Bible Belt area. Maybe someday people will not be so mean and judgemental.

A is for Aromatherapy

A is for Aromatherapy

I have chosen to write about aromatherapy because I believe that it can be useful to all people even if they are not pagans. As a refresher for everyone a little vocabulary lesson first.

AROMATHERAPY is the use of essential oils from plants for healing and well-being.

ESSENTIAL OILS are concentrated extracts taken from roots, leaves, seeds , or blossoms of plants.

Aromatherapy can be inhaled, massaged into the skin, and can but rarely taken orally. Some of the many benefits of aromatherapy include stress relief, sleep improvement, mood enhancers, headache relief, muscle relaxation, boost immune systems, blood circulation, mental clarity, and many many more benefits to be named here.

Here’s a brief guide to essential oils (EO’s) and their aromatherapy uses.

EOs reputed to aid memory and recall: Cedarwood, Marjoram, Peppermint, Rosemary

EOs reputed to aid relaxation: Chamomile, Clary Sage, Juniper Berry, Lavander, Lemon, Mandarin, Marjoram, Neroli, Rose, Rose Geranium, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang.

EOs reputed to aid alertness: Black Pepper, Juniper Berry, Lemon, Peppermint, Pine, Rosemary, Rose Geranium, Ylang Ylang.

…OK, you may be wondering, how can an essential oil (such as ylang ylang) help relax you AND keep you alert? Ylang Ylang and Juniper Berry are among the EOs that have a general balancing effect on the body and mind…

EOs reputed to aid depression: Chamomile, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Petitgrain, Rosemary, Sandalwood.

EOs reputed to aid congestion: Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon, Patchouli, Peppermint, Pine, Rosemary.

EOs reputed to have pain-relieving properties: Cajeput, Chamomile, Ginger, Helichrysum, Lavender, Marjoram, Rosemary, Rose.

EOs reputed to have skin-rejuvenation effects on mature skin: Carrot Seed, Frankincense, Lavender, Jasmine, Myrrh, Neroli, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Rose.

Sometimes these plants are put in shampoos, lotions, astringents, candles, and air fresheners . These are just a few of the many interesting ways plants can be used to help create a mood. Some plants not only work towards altering an illness the body has but they can also put a person in a particular mood such as relaxed, invigorated, calm, etc. For centuries essential oils have been considered the most theraputic and rejuvenating of all botanical extracts.

Pagan Blog Project :Altar

A IS FOR ALTARS

So I have decided to share my altars that I have.. My home altar was made on a budget because with two kids there isn’t a lot extra at the end of the month for Mommy to buy things for herself.. so after looking around I repurposed several items that I already had at home, a few trips to the dollar store, a couple of yard sales, and just plan wandering around in my own backyard.. I found some beautiful items to make my own altar.. I love it..

My other altar is at work. It is one that I tried to make one that would not look like an altar because I live in a very religious community which does not believe in religions outside of their own.  My altar kinda looks like a Zen Rock garden to most , but to me it gives me a place to meditate to the goddess and god during any part of my work day.

Other websites with great Altar ideas:
